第一次到一所新學校，你最想先認識哪一個地方？
是教室、圖書館、運動場，還是體育館？
這次的國中英文閱讀主題是A New School English Reading。故事中的 Min-Ho 從 South Korea 來到 Taiwan，今天是他在新學校上課的第一天。
Brian 熱心地帶著 Min-Ho 參觀校園。在短短的故事中，學生不但可以認識常見的校園設施英文，也能練習 There is／There are、What is that? 和 Are there any…? 等重要句型。
文章最後還有三道閱讀選擇題，幫助學生確認自己是否真正理解文章內容。
A New School English Reading故事內容
Reading 1: A New School
Min-Ho is from South Korea. Today is his first day at a new school in Taiwan. Brian shows him around the school.
There is a big gate, a sports field, and a basketball court. There is also a library near the garden.
Min-Ho looks at a blue building and asks, “What is that?”
Brian says, “That is the gym. We can work out there after school.”
Min-Ho is happy, but he has one question.
“Are there any cafeterias here?”
Brian says, “No, there aren’t. We eat lunch in the classroom.”

Min-Ho 來自南韓。今天是他在台灣一所新學校上課的第一天，Brian 帶著他參觀校園。
校園裡有一座大門、一個運動場和一個籃球場。花園附近還有一間圖書館。
Min-Ho 看著一棟藍色的建築物，問：「那是什麼？」

閱讀校園主題文章時，可以先掌握以下常見單字與片語。
school中文：學校
gate中文：大門、校門
sports field中文：運動場
basketball court中文：籃球場
library中文：圖書館
garden中文：花園

文章中出現了介紹地點與設施時非常常用的句型。
There is＋單數名詞
There is also a library near the garden.
花園附近還有一間圖書館。
因為 library 是單數名詞，所以使用 There is。
介紹學校、房間、社區或城市時，都可以使用 There is 和 There are。
例如：
There is a library near the garden.
花園附近有一間圖書館。
There is a gym at the school.
學校裡有一座體育館。
There are many students on the sports field.
運動場上有許多學生。

Min-Ho 看到遠處的藍色建築物時問：
“What is that?”
那是什麼？
Brian 回答：
“That is the gym.”
那是體育館。
當物品距離說話者較遠時，可以使用 that。

Min-Ho 想知道學校裡有沒有學校餐廳，因此問：

句型結構為：
Are there any＋複數名詞…?
這個句型可以用來詢問某個地方是否有某些人、事物或設施。
肯定回答：
Yes, there are.
是的，有。
否定回答：
No, there aren’t.
不，沒有。

建議學生按照以下順序練習：
第一次閱讀時，先了解人物、地點與主要事件。
第二次閱讀時，圈出不熟悉的校園單字。

不看中文翻譯，再讀一次英文文章。

最後大聲朗讀文章，練習英文發音、語調與句子節奏。
閱讀能力不是只靠背單字建立的。學生需要練習從上下文判斷意思、辨認問題關鍵字，並回到文章中找出支持答案的線索。
